Volunteer Opportunities

What is a volunteer?

A Volunteer is an individual who reaches out beyond the confines of paid employment and of normal responsibilities to contribute time and service to a cause in the belief that his/her activity is benefical to others as well as personlly satisfying. A YMCA volunteer is defined as anyone who willingly gives time to help the YMCA accomplish its mission without getting paid by the Y.

Volunteers, by their very nature, help root the YMCA to its identity as an association of people motivated by an ethic of service. They enable the YMCA to offer programs and services more affordably. Through the giving of their talents and expertise, the YMCA can expand the variety and scope of programs offered to the members and the community.

Every person has a unique reason for choosing the YMCA; some place the most value on the child development and asset building in youth we serve, some want to associate with an organization at the heart of the community in which they live and appreciate the value of the services we provide others want their children to be exposed to the heart of volunteerism and community upon which the YMCA is built. Whatever the reason, people continue to count on the YMCA and we want to be able to count on you.

George Williams founded the Young Men's Christian Association in 1844, was a volunteer. He saw a community need and created the YMCA to help fill that need. We have been a volunteer-driven organization ever since. The mission and goals of the Young Men's Christian Association have changed from its inception in 1844, but what has not changed is the concern for the welfare of the people in our community. Volunteers can and do make a difference.
